Johanna Parkes, a founding member of the Legatos performance group, died on July 5, 2020 at her home on Marco Island.

For more than twenty years, Parkes was a vibrant member of the Music Foundation of Greater Naples, formerly The Naples Music Club. As a child in St. Louis, Missouri, Parkes studied classical piano at Juilliard School of Music. This specialized training at a young age began Parkes passion for music that would continue throughout her life. She performed as a concert pianist in solo and recital groups in New York after she graduated from the University of Wisconsin. While she was committed to her work with the foundation, she was also active at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Naples, loved the outdoors, and served her community in a variety of ways.
Her commitment to the foundation continues even after her passing as she designated the Music Foundation of Greater Naples as a beneficiary in her estate. The money will be used to support and fund important programs and scholarships of the foundation to teach musicians of the future.
